We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse in our Stroke Neurology Unit at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) in New Westminster, BC.  This position will be the stroke outreach nurse that will accompany a patient suffering from a stroke through their initial acute care journey. They will work closely with the neurologist to ensure our stroke patients experience the highest standards of care.

Critical Care is one of 13 clinical service programs provided through an integrated network of community, intermediate, and tertiary services to Fraser Health patients who are critically ill.

Build on your career experience by:

  • Delivering standard methodologies in stroke care to patients and families
  • Collaborating with the stroke team and physicians in assessing, planning and implementing appropriate nursing care to acute stroke patients
  • Providing clinical assessment and education to support the interdisciplinary team
  • Resolving stroke care priorities that meet clinical and patient/family needs in collaboration and consultation with the interdisciplinary team
  • Identifying patient care issues and recommending revisions/improvements to strategy and processes.
  • Participating in research, quality reviews and investigations.

Your background includes:

  • Graduated from an approved school of Nursing
  • Three (3) years’ related clinical experience in designated clinical area including post-basic clinical training in critical care and/or emergency nursing
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) health care providers (HCP) certification

This role is a full-time position located at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) in New Westminster, BC. Royal Columbian Hospital is home to Fraser Health’s regional stroke centre providing centralized and comprehensive support for stroke patients with the implementation of a 24/7 acute stroke team. RCH is a provincial referral hospital (tertiary/trauma care centre) with 422 acute beds that is University of BC-affiliated. The hospital is located ½ hour from downtown Vancouver, and close to rapid transit, shopping, restaurants and other amenities.
