Support program development and evaluation while offering clinical expertise and consultation to staff, including nurses and physicians. Supervise staff, conduct patient assessments, and provide health education in group and individual settings. Travel to various Island Health sites as needed.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Resource Person for Staff: Provides clinical expertise and in-service education for physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare workers in hospitals, communities, and educational settings. Develops and evaluates educational materials, trains staff and participates in specialized programs and outreach education. Provides direct patient care and participates in staff orientation.
  • Leadership in Service Area: Supervises staff, assigns work, approves overtime, and contributes to performance planning and evaluations. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to address risk management issues and provides ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Quality Assurance/Improvement: Develops tools and processes to assess program effectiveness, revises procedures to align with standards, and evaluates equipment and supplies. Maintains clinical specialty equipment.
  • Administrative Support: Documents nursing observations and interventions, maintains accurate health records, collects data, and participates in program activities to improve patient care and safety.
  • Clinical Assessment & Support: Participates in multidisciplinary clinics, provides patient/family education, supports informed decision-making, reviews lab results and medications, and coordinates with other agencies.
  • Patient Education & Training: Establishes therapeutic relationships, assesses learning needs, provides education, advocates for informed choices, and demonstrates self-care skills. Collaborates on patient/family education sessions.

What you need to apply:

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Graduation from a recognized nursing program with Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification for specialty and/or service area or evidence of an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Three years recent related surgical experience in ostomy, fistula and wound management, or two years recent Enterostomal Therapy experience, or an equivalent combination of experience.
