Nurses play a key role in our team environment. Our nurses are responsible for ensuring that the health care needs of our clients are met in conjunction with our Paramedic team.

Here’s how

Direct Patient Care Activities 

  • Incorporates health and wellness promotion and health teaching in patient encounters 
  • Assesses, diagnoses, plans, implements and evaluates plan of care for all occupational and non-occupational health concerns
  • Consults with collaborating physicians when required, based upon scope of practice regulations. Consults and updates the Medical Director as required
  • Provides Return-to-Work and Workers’ Compensation assessment, treatment and follow-up for client populations specified under the THCC Inc. contract
  • Conducts diagnostic testing (including venipuncture collection electrocardiography, pulmonary function, and audiometric testing) and interprets results, consulting collaborative physician as indicated
  • Consults/collaborates with other health care providers to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Documents all interventions completed
  • Conducts periodic health screening clinics
  • Performs delegated public health functions including influenza vaccination 
  • Conduct PCR swabs as needed
  • Maintains awareness of and functions exclusively within the provincially legislated regulations for The College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL)
  • Routinely checks and maintains all clinic-based and emergency medical equipment including medications on a weekly basis (or more frequently as required)

Indirect Patient Care Activities

  • Acts as liaison between THCC medical/nursing staff and their contracted clients to coordinate patient care
  • Reviews pre-placement and periodic medicals upon request
  • Completes periodic audits of patient charts to identify testing required and potential health issues for future program development
  • Works in collaboration with VNL site staff and physician/medical director to identify, track and treat identified health concerns within the employee population
  • Performs occupational hygiene checks in designated food preparation areas at site
  • Liaison with public health officials in relation to any public health issues or concerns
  • Conducts periodic tours to maintain familiarity with work environment
  • Performs weekly water sampling on potable water for offsite public health testing
  • Routinely checks and maintains all clinic-based and emergency medical equipment including medications on a weekly basis (or more frequently as required)

Administrative/Support Activities 

  • Works in conjunction with other THCC staff on health and wellness program development for clients under the THCC contracts as well as for clients of THCC general
  • Participates in continuing education/professional growth activities
  • Develops and updates clinical documents, policies and protocols (both medical/nursing and those in support of services to the contracted clients), and education materials for staff
  • Active role in procurement of necessary medical equipment and supplies
  • Active role in Vale health surveillance programs: pulmonary function, audiology and biological monitoring are examples
  • Maintains statistics on all occupational and non-occupational clinic visits

What you bring

  • Successful completion and graduation from a Bachelor of Nursing program or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of Nursing experience with at least 3 years’ emergency room/critical care, or emergency nursing combined with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity. Strong verbal and written skills 
  • Current registration (or eligibility to register) with The College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL)
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in management of operations
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective teams and provide strong Management
  • Excellent communication skills & relationship building skills 
  • Ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement policy, procedures and improvement initiatives
  • Successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making
  • Ability to wear many hats in a fast paced environment
  • Committed to delivering the highest standard in patient care and client experience
  • Experience, knowledge, and proficiency in Occupational Health Nursing and/or industrial nursing an asset (or willingness to pursue same)
  • Medication administration including strong knowledge of advanced and critical care medications.
  • Demonstrates advanced physical assessment and critical thinking skills, and synthesizes findings to identify an appropriate diagnoses and develop a plan of care for each patient presentation 
  • Experience in policy and program development an asset
  • Evidence of health teaching experience (peer/professional and client-centered) an asset
  • Experience in EKG Interpretation, Venipuncture, Pulmonary Function and Audiometric testing and Interpretation 
  • Current CPR, ACLS, ITLS
  • Proven experience in the field of administration of industrial construction site medical services
  • Non-Dot urine drug screening
  • Non-Dot Breath Alcohol screening
  • Class 5 NL driver’s license with abstract
  • Audiology course, or willing to obtain in first year of hire
  • Pulmonary function course, or willing to obtain in first year of hire
  • Fit Testing experience, instructor certification preferred
  • WHMIS training an asset
  • Evidence of active participation in professional growth and development activities
