RFP: Nurse Education Consultant

Objectives

Christian Horizons is a non-profit charitable organization that supports people in our communties who experience a Developmental Disability. We are seeking the services of a Registered Nurse practicing with no restrictions to provide education consulting for workplace learning initiatives. We are seeking to train non-regulated care professionals working in the developmental services sector with supporting people who experience a developmental disability who also require support with administering medication  and monitoring their wellness. The deliverables and scope of work in this RFP outline the basic elements that will be needed for this contract. Along with these basic elements is an expectation that the Nurse Education Consultant will be available for additional times should the needs of the purchaser exceed the elements stated in this RFP.

Scope of Work Summary

Component 1

Timeline

One-time event at the onset of the contract. Estimated to take approximately 40 hours worth of consultation time to complete the task alongside of 40 hours of time from the Learning and Development Manager.

Deliverables

Develop curriculum in consultation with Learning and Development Manager for identified controlled medical acts that communicate specific learning outcomes to equip Christian Horizons staff to perform transferrable skills as it pertains to maintaining a person’s picture of health.

 

All training materials, necessary equipment and reference resources will be considered the property of Christian Horizons once the course has been completed and deemed ready for delivery.

 

Identified Acts include but are not limited to:

Blood Glucose Monitoring

Nebulizer

Puffers

Oxygen

Suctioning

Enteral Nutrition

Suppositories

Enemas

 

Component 2

Timeline:

Estimate that these training sessions will occur once every month and take approximately 8 hours per session.

Deliverables:

Facilitate in class training on identified controlled medical acts for non-regulated care professionals, followed by a documented assessment of competency to go in the employee’s file for training purposes.

 

Training sessions will be scheduled by the Learning and Development Manager.

 

Component 3

Timeline:

These duties will likely have periods of high intensity and low intensity.

 An estimate of the time associated with these duties would be approximately 4 hours every week but given the nature of the work these duties will not be performed in a regularly scheduled manner. 

These duties will be continue for the duration of the initial contract as well as for the duration of any renewals of this contract.

Deliverables: 

Consult with employee’s as directed by the Learning and Development Manager to update and clarify person specific protocols on routines and observations that are required to support people through performing controlled medical acts to maintain their wellness.

Component 4

Timeline:

This task will be completed on an ongoing basis for the duration of the contract. An estimate for this portion of the contract would be approximately 2 hours per week.

Deliverables: 

Participate in on-going training of employee’s, as directed by the Learning and Development Manager, to ensure competency of skills and satisfy retraining needs for employee’s.

Respond to workplace learning needs on an as needed basis to support job readiness for employee’s.

Consult with Program managers or designate on-site to offer support to employee’s to provide appropriate care for people with specific and individualized care needs.  

 

Component 5

Timeline: 

This will occur every three months for the duration of the initial contract as well as the duration of any renewal period of the contract.

Deliverables:

Communicate and coordinate with district Learning and Development Manager on a quarterly basis to maintain overall efficacy of training.

 

Component 6

Timeline:

This is a one-time event that will be started once the initial training module has been completed and the training sessions have begun.  Estimated to take approximately 25 hours worth of consultant time to complete the task alongside of approximately 25 hours of time from the Learning and Development Manager.

Deliverables: 

Develop modules in consultation with the Learning and Development Manager for the following self administration skills. Modules will be geared toward people who experience a developmental disability to educate them on self-administering medications and/or self monitoring their wellness.

Provide training materials, necessary equipment, and reference resources necessary to facilitate learning modules. All training materials, necessary equipment and reference resources will be considered the property of Christian Horizons once the course has been completed and deemed ready for delivery.

Modules Include:

  • Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • Puffers
  • Nebulizer
  • Enteral Nutrition
  • Suppositories
  • Enema
  • Oxygen

Component 7

Timeline:

These modules will be administered on an as needed basis.

Deliverables: 

The time commitment is estimated at one session every two months with each session lasting 1 approximately hour.

Facilitate self-administering and self-monitoring modules to clients to enhance their independence in activities of daily living.

These education sessions will be scheduled by the Learning and Development Manager.
