Clinical/Lab Instructor, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program

About the Role:

VIU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program follows a concept-based curriculum and promotes the integration of concepts across several health contexts, including health promotion, gerontology, acute and chronic health challenges, community nursing, and mental health areas.

 

As a member of the BSN Faculty, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. This role is part of an integrated team where you will participate in program and faculty meetings and liaise with all levels of staff and other faculty members.

 

VIU places emphasis on teaching excellence and encourages scholarly activity and community involvement. This position may require travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.

 

About the Faculty:

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

 

The mission of the Faculty is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed BSN Degree from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Current practicing membership in good standing with the BCCNM
  • Five years of full-time recent practice experience in different contexts of care

Candidates with the minimal qualification (BSN and 5 years of experience) will be restricted to instruction for the following courses: NURS104; NURS111; NURS114; NURS175; NURS201; NURS204; NURS211; NURS214; NURS275; see the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program website for course descriptions

 

  • Be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles
  • Ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a dynamic and creative program team
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, Indigenous ways of knowing and being
  • Possess valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record
