Nursing Professor

Matter Here: work at Vancouver Island University. The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services invites applications for one of four permanent, full-time Professor positions in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

 

About the Position:

The Nursing Professor will teach theory and practice courses, as well as skills and simulation labs, in all years of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. They will prepare and deliver classes, design and grade student assignments and tests, and facilitate student integration of theory and practice.

 

The Professor will oversee instructor-led and preceptor-led practicums across all years of the program. In addition, they will be active participants in program and faculty meetings and will liaise with staff and faculty as a part of their role.

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work in a team-oriented program and Faculty in an institution that is primarily focused on students and teaching. They will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, inter-professional education, an interest in interdisciplinary scholarship, and the inclusion of students in scholarly inquiry activities/research.

 

VIU places an emphasis on teaching excellence and encourages scholarly activity and community involvement. This position requires travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services includes the Departments of Child and Youth Care, Dental Assistant, Dental Hygiene, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health Care Assistant, Nursing, Practical Nursing, Social Work, Education Assistant and Community Support, and a Professional Development and Training department.

 

The mission of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services is to foster student success and develop and maintain relevant, responsive, and stimulating learning opportunities that are community-based, globally and locally, and offered in a visionary, interprofessional environment that is conducive to learning and promotes health and wellness for all. The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind. Required Qualifications:

  • Completed relevant PhD and an undergraduate degree in Nursing from an appropriately accredited institution. A Master’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years' teaching experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Minimum three years of current practice experience in nursing within different contexts of care: expertise and practice experience must be in mental health, gerontology, community, perinatal, or acute-medical/surgical care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a dynamic and creative program team.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching.
  • Current practicing membership in good standing with the BCCNM.
  • Experience with, and knowledge of, Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
  • Ability to be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learners.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
