The Senior Consultant - LTC position is responsible to align leading practices and resident needs/goals, and focus on developing, analyzing and promoting quality and service improvement projects. This position works to develop, coordinate and facilitate initiatives at the zone, program and LTC site level.

This lead position is responsible for influencing change through collaboration and consultation with internal and external stakeholders leading to excellence in person centred care and quality of life. The Facility and Supportive Living (FSL) Program serves LTC, DSL and specialty programs to over 80 sites in the Edmonton Zone. Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. Description:

The Senior Consultant - LTC guides the development of improvement initiatives to enhance resident and family experience (health outcomes, quality of care, quality of life, and service outcomes) with internal AHS & FSL teams and LTC sites. This position assesses and influences provincial, zone and program priorities, and provides insight into current clinical & operational resources and practices; utilizes applicable quality improvement frameworks, finds ways to influence change, and continuously evaluates the effectiveness of changes through interaction with multiple stakeholders.

This position is also integral in aligning quality initiatives within FSL. The Senior Consultant - LTC is responsible for carrying out improvement related projects from start to finish, which will include: key stakeholder consultation and support, data analysis, knowledge transfer, development of processes and documents, and rollout. Recent LTC experience and a high degree of independence to plan, lead, and implement quality and service improvement initiatives is necessary to be successful in this role.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in health-related field required. An equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered. Active registration and practice permit from appropriate College. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in LTC clinical practice and unit/site management. Quality improvement experience related to resident care and safety. Hands on experience in leading initiatives including use of project management, process improvement, change management, and outcome evaluation tools. Experience in monitoring and analyzing data for use in decision-making and recommendations. Excellent leadership, organizational, and team building skills, and experience with group facilitation.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to translate quality issues and information, legislation and regulations, policies, contract monitoring, concerns, etc. into understandable and practical recommendations. Strong communication skills to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to adjust to continuously changing environments, expectations and competing priorities. Proficiency with computer skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Degree in clinical field, business, or healthcare, experience will be considered. Connections with and understanding of community services, resources, and supports. Diverse clinical or managerial experience in health care. Experience with opening/commissioning of new units/sites, contingency and pandemic planning, or implementation of electronic clinical information systems. Experience with Meditech, Netcare, and Connect Care. Quality and change management training.
