DUTIES

UCN is seeking three individuals for a challenging and diverse position as instructor within the Faculty of Health for the Diploma in Practical Nursing program in Swan River, and Thompson, who is committed to excellence in teaching and promoting an interdisciplinary approach to care.  The position involves teaching theory courses, skills in a laboratory setting and facilitation of learning experiences in both the facility and community clinical settings.  In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible for classroom management, student supervision and advising, maintenance of student records and grades, curriculum review/development and other administrative tasks.  Instructor will also assist with assigned activities including University College promotion, student recruitment, and various program administrative functions.  These positions may require days and evenings and/or 12-hour shifts during clinical courses instruction.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Nurse with an Undergraduate or Graduate Nursing Degree preferred
  • An active CRNM membership with no restrictions
  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in nursing is essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
  • A varied past experience including Medical-Surgical, Gerontology, OBS, Mental Health, and northern nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to understand cultural influences and issues specific to Indigenous learners and mature students in Manitoba communities
  • Commitment to life-long learning

ASSETS:

  • Experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
  • The ability to speak an Indigenous language
  • Previous instructional experience
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and delivery

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must complete a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have a current BLS - HCP Certificate
  • Must be willing to workdays, evenings, and/or 12-hour shifts for clinical instruction
