Position Summary

Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) invites applications from Perioperative Certified Registered Nurses for various Operating Room Registered Nurse openings.

We currently have MULTIPLE Permanent part-time (0.75 FTE) and full-time opportunities; shifts are rotating Days & Nights – 07:00 to 15:30, 07:15 to 15:45, 09:30 to 18:00, 10:00 to 18:30, 22:45 to 07:15 hours. On call is associated with these positions.

What will you work on?
The Registered Nurse practices in a variety of clinical settings and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care. Working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse ensures the delivery of client–centered care by assisting individual clients and their families respond to changing health care needs. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

About this location/unit
Royal Inland Hospital’s Operating Room Department has 9 theatres offering services that include: General (MIS bowels, hernias, spleen, whipples), Trauma, Ortho Trauma, Obs/Gyne (LAVH), Urology (MIS Nephrectomy, Cystectomy, PCNL’s), Ortho (total joints, sports medicine), ENT, Neuro (Craniotomies, Spinal surgery), Vascular (AAA stents, Bypass grafts, pacemakers, wound management ), Major Plastics, Dental, and Laser cases (Holmium, CO2, YAG). OR RNs are expected to work in all services. As a member of the RIH Operating Room team, you will have circulating and scrubbing duties while coordinating and overseeing the overall care of the patient.

Orientation to the OR is tailor made to the experience of the new staff member, with the average orientation being 12 weeks. Orientation is a week or two in each service depending on prior experience.

We have Resource Nurses in all the specialties to ensure there is on-going support and teaching for all staff members. In-services are provided on a weekly basis. Additional nurses involved with leadership of the department include the Manager, Clinical Operations OR, an Operation Room Educator and Equipment Coordinator. Library Services to support patient care, education and research are available. As well, The OR department is moving into a beautiful new tower July 2022!

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
• Current CPR certification required.
• Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area (perioperative nursing) and one year recent related clinical experience in the assigned practice environment on an operating room similar in size and scope to the facility or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Note: Sites requiring competency in Emergency Room, Perianesthesia and Medical Device Reprocessing functions may also require NRP, TNCC and ACLS certificates.
