BCIT is one of British Columbia’s largest post-secondary Institutes, with over 47,000 students enrolled annually. Renowned for offering hands-on, highly relevant critical training for more than five decades, a BCIT education provides real-life, contextual instruction, and has increasingly integrated applied research into both educational practice and industry advancements.
BCIT’s School of Health Sciences is an essential contributor of health professionals to the BC healthcare system. The School provides instruction to more than 2,400 FTEs annually in 31 health related programs, some of which are offered exclusively at BCIT. Students are prepared in a wide array of health science-related programming, such as Occupational Health and Safety, Electro Diagnostics, Biomedical Engineering, the Allied Health Professions, Food Safety and Processing, and Nursing. Demand for the programs is high. Healthcare has been BC’s second largest employer, with more than 250,000 people employed in the sector, and is projected to be a key growth area to 2022, likely to add an additional 64,000 jobs to the economy. With respect to the nursing professions, BCIT graduates approximately 20% of the province’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students and 100% of students who graduate out of Specialty Nursing.
An opportunity now exists in the role of Associate Dean, Nursing to lead the ongoing development and program delivery of the BSN program. Reporting to the Dean, School of Health Sciences, this individual will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Specialty Nursing and other School of Health Sciences Associate Deans.
The ideal candidate is a nursing executive with a deep knowledge of healthcare delivery and the evolving role of nursing education and practice. This individual will bring broad leadership and management experience from within the academic and/or health sectors in which they have had significant exposure to curriculum development and maintenance. Experience with strategic planning, implementation, and change management will aid the successful candidate in inspiring and supporting faculty and staff to continue to anticipate and meet the everchanging education and practice needs of the nursing workforce in the province.
This is a high impact opportunity for a proven leader to bring vision and highly effective leadership to one of the School of Health Sciences’ key academic units – the Baccalaureate Nursing program. This role is based at BCIT’s main campus in Burnaby.
