About the Opportunity

Are you interested in a Critical Care Nursing career with Nova Scotia Health? We are currently accepting Critical Care Nursing Program (CCNP) applications and we would love to hear from you! This is an educational opportunity available to current Registered Nurses who have limited or no Critical Care experience and are interested in developing their skills.

The program will be 16 weeks in length. It will include both full-time and part-time study aimed at ensuring the nurse achieves the knowledge, skills and abilities required to meet the program competencies. The program will be aligned with a transition to practice approach, with blended clinical and study time, that will support the nurse in transferring program competencies into his/her critical care practice. Students accepted into the program will also be scheduled for regular periods of orientation in the critical care environment with the purpose of providing further support in transitioning to this specialized area.

Registered Nurses who successfully complete the CCNP will be hired into existing vacancies in our Halifax and Dartmouth Intensive Care Units, specifically the following:
 

  • VG 3A Med-Surg ICU
  • Halifax Infirmary 5.1 Cardiovascular CVICU
  • Halifax Infirmary 5.2 Med-Surg Neuro ICU
  • Halifax Infirmary 6.4 Coronary Care Unit
  • Dartmouth General ICU


Successful applicants will agree to complete the program and will be required to sign a Return of Service Agreement.

Course Start date: January 2022

About You

  • Currently working as a Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of one (1) year acute care experience required, two (2) years preferred
  • IMCU experience preferred

Salary and Incentives

NSNU Registered Nurse:
$35.21 - $41.48 hourly
$42.93 hourly with 25 years' experience


NSGEU Registered Nurse:
$35.03 - $41.41 hourly
$42.86 hourly with 25 years' experience

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Successful candidates may also be eligible for a signing bonus and relocation assistance for a return of service commitment.
