ONA is seeking to hire a Long Term Care and  Labour Relations Specialist to join our Provincial Services/Professional Practice Team and work out of our Toronto office.

In addition to carrying a LTC home practice caseload, the successful candidate will provide direct support to the provincial professional practice and health & safety teams, and act as a resource to other teams by providing expert advice and opinion on matters in the long term care sector. In this role, you will work closely with ONA staff and elected leadership supporting the preparation of professional responsibility cases, identifying resolutions to the practice issues, identifying supporting evidence, and discussing them at agency meetings, as required.

In addition to providing ONA with advice and opinion, you will also be accountable for drafting submissions and position statements to the government, College of Nurses and other agencies, as well as participating in oral presentations of these submissions and statements.

This is what else you can expect from this dynamic role:

  • Providing service to members and staff across the province as an expert in LTC.
  • Preparing and presenting submissions to Independent Assessment Committees, government and other external bodies.
  • Acting as a resource to the individuals on our district service teams, provincial teams and other service teams on LTC matters.
  • Representing ONA on external committees relevant to the role.
  • Providing education to our membership and orientation to new staff.
  • Opportunities to travel and meet staff and members in their workplaces, supporting them on professional practice and other matters pertaining to the LTC sector. 

 

What we are looking for:

  • Baccalaureate in Nursing is required; a Master’s degree in a related area is preferred.
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (RN); general or extended class.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in the long term care sector.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of labour relations experience and/or Labour Relations/Industrial Relations Certificate is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of the long term home sector and LTC Home Act and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring is preferred.
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to work well with others in a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Adept in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows and have a basic knowledge of database application.
  • Bilingualism (written and verbal French) would be a further asset. 
  • Must have demonstrated advocacy and an "activist's heart."
