As a Registered Nurse, you’ll work as part of the multidisciplinary, integrated Supervised Consumption Services / Consumption and Treatment Services staff team, within a harm reduction framework, aligned with the vision and values of PQWCHC, and in accordance with the Ontario Nurses’ Association and the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) Standards of Practice. Striving for excellence in client-centred care and education, you’ll work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members, health care professionals/providers and clients in identifying and resolving health and social issues, and integrating care.

Reporting to the SCS Manager, and working both on your own and in consultation with the Primary Care Clinical Team, you’ll supervise clients administering their own drug injections and using other permitted modes of consumption (i.e. intranasal and oral) who may present with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses/diseases and complex health and social needs. As an RN, you’ll provide education and support on safer injection and consumption, monitor clients for adverse reactions, assess, respond to, and manage overdose events, and initiate emergency responses, as necessary, as well as provide basic primary care to address health issues, and make referrals to other health and social service providers.

Your degree in Nursing is complemented by current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and RNAO membership, and at least 3 years of experience in a community setting or a combination of community and hospital or public health settings. Demonstrating values aligned with a harm reduction approach to service delivery, you bring significant front-line nursing harm reduction experience, and a track record of success in both emergency response and overdose response.

Proficiency in one or more languages other than English, and experience in the following areas would be assets: a primary care or street/outreach nursing setting; a supervised consumption or overdose prevention service; program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; and working with people who use drugs, racialized populations, Indigenous peoples, people who engage in sex work, prisoners/ex-prisoners, people with mental health challenges, and people who have experienced trauma.

Above all, you must be a strong communicator and active listener, open, non-judgmental, highly flexible and resourceful, willing to learn, demonstrating sensitivity to others and able to multi-task, handle conflict and maintain a positive outlook. Police clearance documentation will be required for employment.
