Operating Room Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse

Your Opportunity:

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the ORT will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with CLPNA and Standards of Practice and Competencies for the Perioperative LPN. The Misericordia Community Hospital OR includes the following types of services: general, plastic, urological, gynecological, and orthopedic surgery. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the OR and promotes their professional role by evaluating their own educational requirements and clinical practice. The ORT will work within their full scope of practice on a continuum ranging from basic to advanced clinical nursing activities. The nurse will practice using evidence-based measures and outcomes, they will be a patient advocate, and will provide a link between patient care units and the Operating Room. Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Perioperative Nursing program for LPN's required. Three months of recent Operating Room experience required within the past two years. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapid moving environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Ability to stand scrubbed for many hours and to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Demonstrates advanced problem-solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Computer skills including experience in Microsoft Outlook email and VAX is an asset. At least two year’s operating room experience an asset.
