The Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton is a world leader in complex cardiac care and surgery. With a collaborative approach, our team of highly skilled cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiac care professionals, researchers and educators are advancing the prevention, detection, treatment and study of cardiovascular disease.

We are looking for an Instructor - Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) to join our team of cardiac professionals. In this CNE position, you will assess learning needs of nursing staff, plan & implement learning activities, and monitor and evaluate the transfer of knowledge. You will facilitate learning sessions, based on adult education principles, to ensure clinical competencies and organizational standards/practices are maintained.

As a CNE, you will promote excellence in clinical practice, identifies gaps in the clinical practice of nursing staff and take steps to rectify these gaps. You will develop and deliver training and education programs for employees working in the Heart Rhythm Device Clinics within the Edmonton Zone. To address specific learning needs, you will collaborate with nursing staff on development plans and training/education sessions. In addition, it is essential to liaise and collaborate with CNEs at other sites to enhance cardiac practice throughout the Zone.

Description:

As an Instructor, you will be an expert practitioner and key educator. You will take a leadership role in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education for nursing staff including orientation, compulsory and continuing education, and clinical development. You will collaborate with management and internal partners to promote standards of clinical, educational and evidence informed practice. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing required or equivalency. Current or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Minimum 5 years current experience in pacemaker and ICD monitoring and insertions required. Experience with in-service and program development, implementation and evaluation is required. Experience developing education material is required. Ability to acquire appropriate Advanced Nursing Practice Programs if required. Strong computer skills are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experienced user of Paceart Optima preferred. Basic Life Support Instructor Certificate preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred. Accredited Critical Care Certificate preferred. Previous CNE experience is desirable.
