As our new Complex Care Support Team Nurse Practitioner (CCST NP), you'll use your skills and knowledge in advanced practice nursing and medical management to combine the roles of practitioner, teacher, consultant, leader, and researcher. You'll lead and mentor a team of nurses and health professionals and will be responsible for patient assessments, transitions, treatment planning, care planning, discharge, and consultations. There is a community of practice to support you, including Nurse Practitioners our Palliative Care team.

This position may be done remotely much of the time, with minimal travel to client homes and/or sites in north central Alberta. You could be based anywhere from Westlock, to Slave Lake, to Bonnyville. Description:

The Complex Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP) is a self-directed practitioner who directs, provides, and evaluates patient care based on advanced practice nursing and medical management knowledge and skills. The Complex Care Nurse Practitioner has a greater breadth, depth and complexity of application of nursing knowledge, skills, attitudes, judgement and performs additional activities beyond the Registered Nursing practice (CARNA, 2011).

This position functions as an integral member of the Complex Care portfolio by combining the roles of practitioner, teacher, consultant, leader, and researcher through integrating interdisciplinary clinical practice, nursing staff development and research activities. The Complex Care Nurse Practitioner helps to improve frontline nursing practice and promote advanced practice nursing within the Complex Care multidisciplinary consultation team.

Seventy-five percent (75%) of the time of the CCNP is spent in the provision of timely and effective clinical consultative care provided to the Complex patient population in a variety of settings including community, rural, continuing care and acute care. The CCNP provides direct mentoring to improve Complex care expertise within the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

The other twenty-five percent (25%) of the time, the CCNP will be leading advancement of Complex interdisciplinary clinical practice including developing, implementing and evaluating education programs, teaching, leading or participating in working groups, and participating in research projects related to Complex Care.

Required Qualifications:

Member of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta – Extended Practice Roster. Masters of Nursing degree. Nurse Practitioner Certificate.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum three years recent Complex care clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five years recent Complex care clinical nursing experience with experience in an advanced practice role. Advanced clinical & assessment skills. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills. Ability to work independently & to be flexible to adapt to changing clinical situations. Advanced skills & competencies in critical thinking & problem solving. Leadership skills. Works collaboratively with all members of the health care team, including patients and families.
