The purpose of the Well-Being Program Specialist role is to provide leadership, coordination, and execution of goals to advance York's commitment to creating and promoting a mentally healthy campus and to promote overall employee health and well-being. The incumbent researches and references University, divisional, and departmental strategic priorities, institutional data (e.g., absenteeism and sick leave) industry standards, research data, and survey results to guide and inform their work.



Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Health related field, Public Health) is required. Master's degree in a relevant field and/or a relevant registered health professional designation would be preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.



5 years of relevant experience, well-being strategy and program development, implementation, and evaluation, with a focus on employee health and wellness programming. Experience with or understanding of the following is an asset: issues related to the aging adult population, best practices in developing a psychologically healthy workplace, mental health theories and interventions, and community risk assessment.




  • CSA -Z1003-13 Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Knowledge of other legislation such as WSIA and OHSA would be an asset. Skills
  • Proven ability to manage programs in alignment with broader divisional and University objectives, and under pressure of deadlines.
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written) including public speaking, with the ability to effectively communicate to diverse populations in a collaborative and collegial manner.
  • Relationship management skills.
  • Analytical, research and project management skills are required.
  • Excellent tact and diplomacy is required in working with employees, unions and senior level University officials.
  • Exercises accuracy, good judgment and efficiency in all interactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable, with a commitment to excellence, innovation, effective change management, and proven ability to achieve results.
  • The incumbent possesses an appreciation of academic values and thorough understanding the principles of employee health promotion and wellness.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and e-mail are required.

Additional Notes:

  • No unusual physical / sensory demands, but there is the requirement to possess negotiation and relationship development, at times dealing with unhappy, or difficult individuals.
  • Willing to exercise flexibility in work hours to accommodate weekend and evening work if required.



York implemented a revised CPM Compensation Framework in 2019. The Framework is a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
