Head of Health Services

JOB DESCRIPTIONHEAD OF HEALTH SERVICES
The Head of Health Services will plan, direct, and further develop health standards to promote
high quality service and an excellent culture of care at Shawnigan Lake School. By working with
students, house staff, teachers, parents, physicians and other professionals, The Head of Health
Services will ensure the health team is supporting the physical and emotional health of the School’s
students.

The Head of Health Services plays an advisory role to Heads and Student Life Offices, and
ensures compliance of all student records, reviewing, developing and implementing policies
and procedures, updating systems, managing relationships with the school physical and health
professionals (internal and external), supervising nurses and administrative staff, and identifying
areas of improvement to the care of students.

Furthermore, the Head of Health Services will provide care to staff (Administration, Education and
Operations) of Shawnigan Lake School on an as needed basis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree in Nursing
  • Must hold a current RN or LPN license in good standing with the BCCNP
  • Valid CPR-C
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of diverse nursing experience. Assets would include working in aneducational setting or another setting working directly with adolescents, sports injuries training,
    counselling training and experience, and nursing experience in an emergency room (ER) setting
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory / management capacity with excellentleadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professionalmanner
  • A proven understanding of adolescents’ development particularly at 12 years to 18 years of age
  • Experience working with adolescents in a boarding school environment is an asset
  • Experience in Public Health is an asset
  • Experience dealing with “crisis” type medical situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish rapport, build trust and develop key connections withstudents, parents, and staff
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
