Chief Nursing Officer

Horizon Health Network (Horizon) leads the way in bringing innovation and efficiencies to deliver sustainable, affordable, safe, and quality health-care services to residents of New Brunswick, northern Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. One of the largest employers in New Brunswick, an operating budget of approximately $1.2 billion and five locations across the province, Horizon operates 12 hospitals and more than 100 medical facilities, clinics and offices providing medical services ranging from acute care to community-based health services. Horizon’s team of approximately 12,400 staff, 1,000 physicians, 3,500 volunteers, 20 Foundations and 20 Auxiliary and Alumnae organizations offers care and services in English and French.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Nursing Officer is responsible to lead the strategy and delivery of nursing services and nurse workforce engagement across Horizon. Aligned with the Horizon’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan, as Chief Nursing Officer you will work closely with the Executive Leadership Team to provide results aligned with the Horizon’s values and improve safe and quality patient care across the province. You will foster relationships and work closely with Horizon’s Leadership Team, the Government of New Brunswick’s Department of Health, and other key stakeholders. You will provide expertise to the organization in nursing practices, engagement and retention programs, compensation, nursing budgets, planning new patient services, and conducting performance assessments. You will advance strategies to develop, engage and retain a high performing, highly engaged nurse workforce and you will promote a practice environment that empowers nurses to provide effective, compassionate, and effective nursing care.

As the ideal candidate, you are an experienced health care leader with a graduate degree in a health-related field and 10+ years of progressive nursing leadership experience. You are highly strategic and collaborative, and you are able to effectively link an organization’s vision to a specific action plan. You champion change by engaging and communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders alike along the way. You have demonstrated ability to align programs and policies with organizational objectives and are comfortable creating accountability for achieving outcomes.

Beyond your strengths as a healthcare leader, you bring a deep understanding of both hospital and community-based nursing programs and services that will make you a key contributor at the senior leadership table. Collaboration, innovation, passion for enabling the highest quality patient care and a commitment to advance the health system are hallmarks of your leadership. You are a problem-solver who has built and led high-performing and highly engaged teams. Your exceptional interpersonal and communications skills will enable you to effectively develop relationships and foster buy-in with key partners who support Horizon’s vision and mission. Bilingualism is considered an asset.
