Northern Health is accepting applications for a Clinical Practice Leader for Bulkley Lodge in Smithers BC. Bulkley Lodge is a stand-alone, long-term care home located in central Smithers, approximately 5 minutes from Bulkley Valley District Hospital. It provides care to 70 residents across four units within the building.

Job Summary
The Clinical Practice Leader contributes to the delivery of quality resident care, professional nursing practice and the enhancement of geriatric services in a complex care setting through nursing practice assessment and development, clinical consultation, quality improvement, care coordination, staff health and other leadership activities. The Clinical Practice Leader will work as part a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively across disciplines and departments to positively impact nursing care in complex care nursing practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a mentor/coach to residential care staff and others to improve and support best practice in nursing care of the older adult and Psychogeriatric residents.
  • Assists with direction and coordination of resident care as needed, i.e. MDS assessments, care conferences.
  • Observing and assessing clinical practice of individual staff and providing one-to-one practice support as necessary.
  • Ensuring coordination of resident care activities.
  • Assisting with daily staffing activities; assesses clinical situations and assists in decision making on the course of action including the allocation of staffing and use of overtime
  • Facilitates team collaboration and decision making by role modeling effective communication skills, conflict resolution skills and critical thinking.

Job Qualifications

  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
  • Five (5) years recent experience in gerontology and demonstrated competencies in leadership or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
