The Faculty of Health Sciences, Queen’s University invites nominations, applications and expressions of interest for the position of Vice-Dean (Health Sciences) and Director, School of Nursing with the appointment to be effective July 2019. This is a tenured faculty position and rank will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualifications.

In 2016, Queen’s School of Nursing celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding, which is a true milestone for a Canadian nursing school. There has been substantial growth over the last decade in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The School is now home to approximately 475 undergraduate students and 180 graduate students including over 100 students in a new and exciting graduate program in Health Quality. The School has the unique advantage of being an integral member of Queen’s Faculty of Health Sciences, which also includes the School of Medicine and the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, the Vice-Dean (Health Sciences) and Director, School of Nursing will provide strategic direction, academic planning leadership and evoke the mission of the School to achieve the highest possible standards in nursing education. Working in collaboration with the Associate Directors, faculty and staff, the Director will promote a positive environment within the School, foster relationships with both internal and external partners, and will provide academic and administrative oversight for the financial, educational, research and human resources of the School.
The Director will have a PhD in nursing or a related field and will be a recognized scholar with strong achievements in nursing research, teaching and scholarly activities. In addition, they will be a strategic leader with proven administrative experience and will have both the ability and vision to lead academic development in an exciting environment of growth. A collaborative and collegial style, communication and interpersonal skills, experience building internal and external relationships and a creative approach to problem solving are required.
