Nursing Department Chairs

-- BScN Collaborative Nursing Program

-- Nursing Programs (PN, PSW)

An exciting career move for strategic, academic and administrative leaders who will support Centennial College’s mission of educating students for career success

Over the past 50 years, Centennial College has transformed itself from a local community college to a worldly institution, with a focus on preparing graduates to enter the work force and become global leaders. At Centennial, we are incorporating innovation, technology and entrepreneurship to creatively engage our students, to build more bridges with communities and employers and to connect with our employees who are doing meaningful work.

The School of Community and Health Studies is recruiting for two (2) Nursing Department Chairs: BScN Collaborative Nursing Programs and Practical Nursing Programs (PN, PSW). The School of Community and Health Studies is comprised of 6 departments: Child and Family Studies, Community Services, Health and Wellness, Emergency Management and Public Safety, Collaborative Nursing Programs (BScN) and Nursing Programs (PN, PSW).

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Community and Health Studies, the Nursing Department Chairs provide effective and positive academic and administrative leadership and supervision to faculty, managers, support staff and students within his/her Department. The Chair leads the planning, development, delivery and ongoing review (including external program approval and licensing requirement processes) of a cluster of full-time and part-time courses, programs and degree offerings. This includes accountability for full-time post-secondary, bridging and post-diploma programs and services, ensuring that programs are relevant to the needs of the College, students, employers and the community at large, and consistent with the College’s and School’s strategic directions, including student retention and graduation.

The Nursing Department Chairs drive integrated multidisciplinary programs and project development linked to employer and community needs, and ensure collaboration, organizational effectiveness and communication both within and outside of the College. A key aspect of the role is developing and sustaining partnerships – locally, provincially, nationally and internationally – and establishing the Department as a leader in education and research.

The Nursing Department Chair, BScN Collaborative Programs will ensure integration, collaboration, effective relationships and operations with our Collaborative BScN partners: Ryerson University and George Brown College. A mandate for this Chair is to continue the research and scholarship activities for the department and faculty, and we are therefore looking for a candidate with a PhD in Nursing, Health Administration or a closely related field, as well as registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario (or eligibility to obtain said licensure). This research foundation should be complemented by 7 or more years of progressive nursing and management experience, with a strong preference given to candidates with experience in academic leadership in the higher education sector (Universities, Colleges).

For the Nursing Department Chair, Nursing Programs (PN, PSW) we are looking for a leader with a master’s degree in Nursing, Health Administration or a closely related field, and approximately 7 years of progressive, related management and leadership experience, preferably in the higher education sector. In addition, you must possess and maintain registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or be eligible to obtain said licensure shortly after hire. A PhD in Nursing, Health Administration or a closely related field, and demonstrated experience in building research capacity will be considered strong assets.

To be considered for either of these key academic leadership roles, please forward your resume to Phelpsgroup at careers@phelpsgroup.ca, specifying the title of the position in the subject line, by November 19, 2018.
