Team Leader - Beacon Program - Mental Health & Addictions

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Manager, Inpatient and Residential Services, the Team Leader brings leadership to the delivery of quality client care and professional nursing practice through supportive clinical practice. Supportive clinical practice includes the competencies of leadership, teaching and research, professional practice, quality improvement and caring. 

The Beacon Program is a residential and community-based program for young adults living with severe and persistent mental illness. It is a voluntary, provincial program. It is grounded in psychosocial rehabilitation.

The Team Leader will also have direct client care responsibilities and provide a wide range of case management activities to clients of the Beacon Program. Working within a multi-disciplinary team approach, and operating from a harm reduction philosophy, the Team Leader will provide quality, client-centered nursing care. Nursing functions include, but are not limited to, comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and recovery planning, psychosocial rehabilitation, client and community education, and evaluation of clients’ progress within the program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Registered and in good standing (or eligible) for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum three (3) three years recent/continuous clinical nursing experience required;
  • Education and/or experience with Psychosocial Rehabilitation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective decision-making, critical thinking, and problem solving in a high pressure situation required.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet challenges and adapt to rapidly changing and stressful situations required.
  • Experience in health programming, outcome measurement, evaluation and evidence-informed decision making required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies, as well as, a proven track record in adhering to departmental policies.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively on a multi-disciplinary team, as well as, independently.
  • Demonstrated accountability and responsibility, planning, organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical nursing practice, with an integrated focus on safety, quality care and clinical excellence.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in documentation, including performing chart audits.
  • Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Experience, knowledge, and respect regarding the principles of harm reduction, addiction and recovery required.
  • Strong knowledge of concurrent disorders, the continuum of care in mental health and addictions, as well as, community referrals. 
  • Demonstrated culturally competent nursing practice.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French Preferred

Hours of Work

Regular Full-time (100%) Position; 75.00 Hours Bi-weekly.

Salary Information

Registered Nurse (RN-03):

$34.5492 - $40.5792 Hourly

($41.996 with 25 years of nursing experience)
