$32.84 - $43.10 hourly

There are two on-call auxiliary positions which will be employed at irregular intervals to meet operational requirements.  

Please Note: This is an ongoing posting without a scheduled closing date and may be open for up to 6 months. Applicants will be reviewed and assessed on a bi-weekly basis. The closing date will be added to the posting a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the scheduled closing date

Youth Custody Services provides Secure and Open sentenced custody as well as remand and pre-court detention for male and female youth in custody under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  Youth Justice contributes to public safety by promoting the development of law abiding behaviour primarily through an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach.

Under the general direction of the Health Care Services Supervisor, the Nurse acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team and provides comprehensive nursing care to youth in custody. This role is involved in problem resolution, evaluating the effectiveness of policies / services, and developing new approaches to resolve emerging or complex issues affecting the youth and staff. The Nurse provides continuation of care i.e. coordinate community medical appointments, release planning as well as consultation, assessment, guidance, and recommendations in complex situations.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the College of BC College of Nursing Professionals/BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Experience working with adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds is preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Level 2 Occupational First Aid.
