Nurse Practitioner

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is currently welcoming applications for Full-Time Nurse Practitioners for opprtunities in Long Term Care (Tatagwa View and Weyburn Special Care Home) and Primary Health Care in Weyburn.  

Long Term Care Nurse Practitioner: 

The Nurse Practitioner RN (NP) blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The RN (NP) practices within a framework of evidence based care, health promotion and disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with residents, families and other disciplines. This includes resident assessments, supporting inter-professional collaboration and participating in continuous improvement.

The LTC NP reports directly to the Nurse Manager of Tatagwa View and will provide coverage to both Tatagwa View and Weyburn Special Care Home. The NP will work to full scope of practice of an RN (NP) and promotes quality health care outcomes and standards to ensure that residents receive a high standard of care. The NP will also work closely with the management staff in providing leadership support at both facilities.

Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner: 

The Nurse Practitioner will provide Primary Health Care (PHC) services to assigned populations which may include: urban populations, visiting services to rural communities, and/or priority populations (e.g. newcomers, teens, residents in long term care facilities) as determined by community and program needs. Depending on community and team requirements, the position may include first on-call support. As the PHC Team evolves, and based on needs of the population, the position may be required to provide new practices such as nurse led extended hour clinic services and/or first on-call support. Primary Health Care services include: health assessment, health promotion and education, disease and injury prevention and assessment, treatment interventions; collaboration with, and referral to, other health care providers; participation in Lean, patient safety, community development, clinical practice redesign, quality improvement, and evaluation.

The NP reports to the PHC Regional Director (or a designate such as Community Health Services Manager), Primary Health Care Teams and works in collaboration with physicians and health care provider team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working as a Registered Nurse, with experience as RN (NP) preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Registered Nurse - Nurse Practitioner Masters Program
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) as an RN (NP)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

  • Ability to apply research to nursing practice
  • Ability to competently use computers and software applications as required by the position
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication with other health care professionals
  • Ability to lead best practice
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Clinical/health assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutic and therapeutic intervention skills working to the scope of practice of the RN (NP) role.
  • Communication skills to provide/obtain verbal and/or written opinions/advice
  • Critical thinking and accurate interpretation of complex information from a variety of sources, including client data, environmental factors, test results, nursing assessment indicators required for safe and effective client care
  • Demonstrated clinical competency including critical thinking skills and confidence to work autonomously.

  • Leadership skills
