Duties and Responsibilities

The School of Health Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, located in Chilliwack, British Columbia, invites applications from qualified individuals for a permanent full-time faculty position in Acute medicine and/or Surgical component of the BSN program commencing August 1, 2021.

UFV’s innovative and vibrant Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree offers a four-year program with a three-year fast track option. Nursing faculty teach in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings, and require the flexibility to teach in more than one level of the program. Classroom and laboratory teaching occurs at the Canada Education Park Campus in Chilliwack. Clinical and community experiences occur in hospitals, community settings, and health care agencies across the Fraser Health Region.

Given UFV’s mandate as a teaching intensive university, the nursing faculty are committed to scholarly and research activities that contribute to an innovative and positive teaching and learning environment. The successful applicant will share the nursing faculty’s commitments to anti-racism, decolonization, and indigenization. Concept-based curriculum, simulation learning, and inter-disciplinary initiatives, are ongoing priorities for curriculum integration and development. Participation in departmental and institutional committees, service contributions, and ongoing professional development is an expectation.



The successful applicant will meet the following criteria:

  • Practicing Licensure with BCCNM as a Registered Nurse.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (current enrolment in a Master’s Program will be considered). Doctoral preparation preferred.
  • Strong, current clinical practice foundation in Acute Medicine and/or Surgical nursing.
  • Commitment to decolonization, indigenization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Highly developed communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills including practices of Cultural Safety.
  • Ability to teach remotely.
  • Previous experience with classroom and/or clinical teaching in a BSN program.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Evidence of Nursing and/or teaching scholarship and interest in future opportunities for scholarship.
  • Experience in curriculum development, community service and working with Indigenous communities are assets.
  • Ability and experience mentoring Indigenous and non-traditional students are assets
