Chair, Collaborative Nursing Programs

Over the past 50 years, Centennial College has transformed itself from a local community college to a worldly institution, with a presence in countries like China, India, South Korea and Mexico. A Centennial education is an education without borders, because the world has changed, and so has the College. Centennial is now prepared for the next set of challenges: to be more innovative and entrepreneurial, to further exploit the benefits of technology, to creatively engage employees, to build more bridges with communities and employers and to see graduates do meaningful work and have meaningful lives.

Continuing its growth and evolution, Centennial is seeking a collaborative academic leader to serve as its Chair, Collaborative Nursing Programs. Located within the School of Community and Health Studies (SCHS), Centennial College's collaborative nursing degree program is offered in partnership with Ryerson University and George Brown College and provides diverse clinical placements, simulation, group study and interactive teaching strategies leading to a BScN degree. The department also offers bridging to university nursing and post-diplomas programs.

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Community and Health Studies, the Chair, Collaborative Nursing Programs provides academic and administrative leadership, supervision and direction to the faculty, managers, support staff and students in the Department of Collaborative Nursing Programs. The Chair provides leadership in the planning, development and delivery of a related cluster of courses and programs (degree, certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and/or continuing education programs) offered in both full-time and part-time formats by the School. The Chair is accountable for the planning, development, delivery and ongoing review including external program approval and accreditation requirement processes of the full-time post-secondary, bridging and post-diploma programs and services, ensuring that the programs are relevant to the needs of college, students, its employers, and the community at large and are consistent with the College’s and School’s strategic directions.

The Chair will drive integrated multidisciplinary program and project development that is linked to employer needs and the community as well as ensure collaboration, partnership, organizational effectiveness and communication for the Department of Collaborative Nursing Programs both within and outside of Centennial College. The Chair also ensures integration, collaboration, effective relationships and operations with our Collaborative BScN partners (Ryerson University and George Brown College). The Chair will develop and sustain partnerships (local, provincial, national and/or international) and establish a leadership position for the department, seeking out research/grant/funding opportunities to build research capacity in support of nursing programs.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of seven years of experience working in a senior administrative leadership role, and will have a Masters degree in Nursing, Health Administration or a closely related field, and maintain registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (or, possess eligibility to obtain licensure soon after hire). A Ph.D. would be considered a strong asset.

The Chair is an inclusive decision-maker with strong advocacy and negotiation skills and a keen eye for collaborative decision-making. The role requires a high degree of emotional intelligence, demonstrated leadership, empathy, and experience leading and consulting teams through change. The ideal candidate can inspire support and create opportunities for faculty and teams to be creative and innovative, and the ideal candidate is familiar with how to bring people together in academic and unionized environments, during times of complex change.
