Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Intake & Crisis Response Services, Mental Health & Addictions or designate, the Community Mental Health Nurse, Crisis Response Service, is a member of a multi-disciplinary team and applies his/her knowledge and experience in the assessment, planning, treatment and evaluation of Emergent/Urgent mental health services across the age spectrum. 

 

The Community Mental Health Nurse exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of the Service and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

Qualifications

* BScN, BN or equivalent.  Masters level an asset.

* Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia.

* Minimum 5 years’ experience in clinical psychiatric/mental health/addiction nursing.

* Training and experience in CISM, Prevention & Management of Aggression & Violence and Suicide Intervention and/or nonviolent crisis intervention 

* Demonstrated assessment, triage and risk evaluation skills across age spectrum, required.

* Experience in group, cognitive, interpersonal, narrative and solution-focused therapies an asset.

* Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with staff, clients, agencies and community resources.

* Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.

* Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked, interdisciplinary team environment and to adapt to changing needs.

* Computer proficiency (Microsoft Suite or equivalent, E-mail, Internet).

* Physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position, such as working flexible hours, managing stressful situations and travelling within the South Shore Geographical Area as necessary.

* Demonstrated regular attendance in current and previous employment.

* Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle.

* Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Permanent Full-time (100%) Position; 75.00 Hours Bi-weekly.

Travel to other sites may be required and must have access to reliable vehicle.

Salary Information

Registered Nurse (RN-3):

$35.2427- $41.3938 hourly

($42.8427 hourly with 25 years of RN experience).
