ABOUT this position
Victoria General Hospital is one of the three tertiary maternity sites (with a level three NICU) in the province and the only one on Vancouver Island with a large volume of deliveries and complex patients which makes this position both challenging and rewarding. Additionally, all major supports are on site (in house Obstetrician, dedicated obstetric anesthesiologist, pediatrician) so that our RN’s and patients can quickly get the support and care required.  On the unit specifically, there are several exciting initiatives including enhanced support of women who use substances in pregnancy and the planning for a new perinatal unit. 

Job Summary
Reports to the Nurse Manager, or designate, the Registered Nurse - Perinatal plans and provides direct nursing care to obstetrical patients in the hospital in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies; national, provincial, regional and local obstetrical guidelines and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia. 

Education, Training & Experience 

•    Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant 
•    Graduate of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program. 
•    Current CPR Basic Rescuer. 
•    Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate
•    Fetal Health Surveillance Course Certificate 
•    Breastfeeding Course Certificate Two (2) years recent related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
