Vice President, Patient Care

Located in fast-growing west Ottawa, Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) cares for more than 500,000 each year. With 264 beds, QCH is the secondary referral centre for the Ottawa Valley and offers diverse programs and services such as Emergency, Childbirth, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Rehabilitation, Medical and Surgical Services, and Critical Care Services. Its exemplary team of 2,500 health care professionals have dedicated themselves to providing expert care that puts patients and families first and was recognized in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals Survey in 2021 as the #1 hospital in Ottawa, #16 in Canada.

With its new strategic plan imminent, QCH is seeking its next Vice President, Patient Care. The VP will be hugely important in bringing QCH’s True North Vision to life and in continuing to build collaborative relationships with regional partners towards the development of an Ontario Health Team.

Reporting to the President and CEO and as a member of QCH’s senior management team, this is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to a diverse array of clinical programs within QCH’s Patient Care portfolio. Drawing on your visionary insight and commitment to achieve results, your strategic and operational leadership of Patient Care Services will enhance and achieve performance excellence in patient safety, quality and satisfaction. Through a focus on continuous improvement and the proactive engagement of staff, your deep clinical operations knowledge and a track record of success in identifying and analysing opportunities will ensure the ongoing efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with professional, accreditation, and health care system expectations that will ensure that Patient Care services are responsive to the acute care needs of QCH’s catchment population.

In addition to the above attributes, you have an undergraduate degree in Nursing or a health-related profession, complemented by a relevant master’s degree, and a minimum of five years of progressive senior management experience in acute care. You are a change agent possessing a working knowledge of LEAN/continuous performance improvement methodologies and a deep appreciation for collaborative problem-solving. You are a highly dynamic leader and skilled communicator whose success is rooted in engaging and empowering teams to achieve performance excellence. A systems thinker who is collaborative by nature, politically astute and highly valued by stakeholders and partners for your authenticity, executive maturity and conviction, you will continue to enhance QCH’s local and regional role to provide service excellence to the growing Ottawa area and surrounding communities.
