An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse - Operating Room in the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre. Cold Lake is located on Alberta's seventh largest lake, 300 km Northeast of Edmonton, offering both indoor and outdoor recreational activities which are bound to keep you busy during and season! We are a populous city of 20,000 and home to Canada's busiest fighter base, 4 Wing Air Force Base. We boast multiple busy industries including tourism and Oil and Gas.

As a Registered Nurse working in and Operating room setting you will rotate through various duties prior to the start of surgery including retrieving the patients from the waiting area, reviewing/confirming patient information and consent. Transporting the patient into the OR, and to surgical table as well as assisting with supplies, equipment and instrumentation. The circulating duties also include unloading surgical case cart (oversized carts containing surgical kits and supplies), handling and management of multiple types and kits of OR instrumentation. During the operation, the circulating nurse updates computer record, retrieves additional supplies, assist and relieves the scrub nurse, processes specimens (prepares specimens and packaging for pathology), performs surgical counts of supplies and empties garbage/linen bags. The scrub duties before the operation include preparation and set up of supplies and equipment.

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Operating room experience required.
