Lifeflight is Manitoba’s licensed fixed wing specialized air ambulance service. Lifeflight transports critically ill and injured persons to appropriate care centres. This transport includes responding to the community, providing critical care in the community, and in air and ground ambulance. The flight nurse is an integral member of the flight team and triages, prioritizes and coordinates all incoming medical evacuation (medevac) requests. The nurse stabilizes and prepares the patient for transport, anticipates and prepares for potential problems, provides total patient care during transport, and undertakes problem solving and intervening as required. Conditions of Employment: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must be a Canadian registered nurse in good standing with current licensing body Must be currently registered with  the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (nurses licensed to practice nursing in other Canadian jurisdictions must be eligible for licensure in Manitoba) Must have a certification in Current Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Must have completed the Critical Care Program with practicum or any other recognized Intensive Care Unit (ICU) program Must be able to complete Flight Nurse Training within probationary period Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba using unconventional modes of transport such as aircraft, boat, ambulance etc) to ensure patient safety Must be able to work in difficult and unusual environmental conditions, including extreme weather and unconventional modes of transport Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the job such as standing, running, sitting, bending, crawling, lifting etc Must be available to work days, evenings, nights and weekends occasionally on an "on call" basis Must be able to obtain satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Security Check Must be able to obtain satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check Must be able to obtain satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check   

Qualifications: Essential: Recent significant experience in critical care nursing including working in an adult intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, and/or emergency department Significant experience with total patient care planning Significant experience with clinical assessments Ability to make critical decisions pertaining to patient safety Ability to assess and anticipate potential problems and develop and implement solutions Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team  Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to prepare patient documentation reports Ability to work in a harsh, demanding, high stress and crisis-oriented environment  Ability to work within established standards or policies, protocols and procedures Desired: Certification in Canadian Aerospace Medicine and Aeromedical Transport Association (CAMATA) is an asset Aeromedical Attendant License in Manitoba    Duties: The flight nurse participates in pre-transport stabilization and provides leadership to rural health personnel for patients’ experiencing complex medical conditions. The nurse anticipates and prepares for potential and actual patient problems and provides total patient care during transport. This is done by continually assessing patient's condition prior to and throughout the flight, identifying problems, developing and implementing nursing and medical interventions, administering medications, and evaluating and revising the nursing plan according to the patient’s clinical status within a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. The flight nurse is also expected to document all aspects of the aero medical transport clearly and concisely. Additionally, the position triages all medevac requests, according to Lifeflight’s response status, policies and procedures.    APPLY TO: Advertisement No. 34691 Manitoba Civil Service Commission Human Resource Services 608-330 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0C4 Phone:  204-945-4394 Fax: 204-948-2193 Email: govjobs@gov.mb.ca
