By delegation of the Treasury Board, and in accordance with the Occupational Health Evaluation Standard, Health Canada’s Public Service Occupational Health Program (PSOHP) is the occupational health service provider responsible for three service lines: Occupational health evaluations, communicable diseases and occupational hygiene. These services are provided to employees of the core public administration. This includes the organizations named in Schedule I and the other portions of the federal public administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and also employees’ dependants in the case of assignments overseas or to remote locations in Canada.

As part of a multidisciplinary team of nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and administriators, some of the Occupational Health Medical Services Manager’s key duties include:
- Manages daily operations, administration and delivery of occupational health (OH) medical services including the delivery of OH nursing services in the Region and managing the daily operation and administration of the regional OH medical clinic(s) in collaboration with the OH Medical Officer(s), Administrative Officer and Regional Manager;
- directly supervises all regional Occupational Health Nurses (may be located across multiple locations / provinces in some regions)
- Serves as the primary point of contact for clients / stakeholders for information on OH medical services in the Regions
- Advises clients / stakeholders on the interpretation of national and regional medical clinic initiatives, policies, guidelines and administrative procedures, in consultation with other team members as applicable
- On occasion, may be required to provide OH nurse surge capacity
