What can I expect to do in this role?

Your role will include:

- Providing professional nursing services and health and wellness education
- Preparing, dispensing and administering medications
- Providing emergency first aid and administering emergency treatment, based on skilled assessment and professional response
- Establishing and maintaining medical charts and records
- Contributing to a case management multi-disciplinary team approach in the provision of services to youth
- Assisting with relevant health care reintegration planning

NOTE: This position is irregular, on-call and will require working between 0-40 hours a week. Hours are not guaranteed.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

- Current unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have demonstrated experience using general nursing theory, practices and procedures and College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice to provide a variety of nursing services.
• You have proven knowledge of facility and health care policies and procedures to ensure appropriate treatment implementation.
• You have knowledge of infection control practices and skills/ability to act effectively on assessment outcomes.
• You have knowledge of and experience applying legislation (e.g. Regulated Health Care Professional Act, Health Care Consent Act, YCJA, CFSA) to ensure compliance with health care standards and youth entitlements (e.g., consent to treatment, confidentiality of records).

Communication Skills:

• You have demonstrated experience presenting information and working with physicians and staff to create, modify and implement treatment plans and facilitate communication.
• You have experience as an advocate for youth with treatment professionals and agencies.
• You have experience using Microsoft Office software and other computer applications to prepare reports, document/chart treatment and progress, enter and retrieve data from computerized systems (e.g. Youth Offender Tracking Information System).

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

• You have experience obtaining and interpreting information from youth and other sources, evaluating youth response to interventions, and modifying treatment measures and goals as required.
• You have experience identifying health care problems and assessing emergency situations.

Counselling and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have experience advising/counselling youth about health care treatment, possible side effects of medication/health care treatment and expected outcomes.
• You have experience promoting education and achieving treatment goals, and responding to complaints or concerns.
• You have the ability to work effectively with health care team and multidisciplinary facility team.

Salary Range: $1,287.85 - $1,605.60 per week

  • 1 Temporary - Irregular On-Call, duration up to 12 months, 390 King St E, Cobourg, East Region, Enhanced - Vulnerable Services Sector Screening Requirement

    You will be responsible for obtaining the criminal record check at your own expense and provide it, along with your written consent, to the Transition and Security Office (TSO), HR Service Delivery Division to evaluate the results. If applicable, the TSO, with your written consent, will request and obtain any additional screening checks as indicated in the Additional Information / Address section above that were not obtained directly by you.
