Registered Nurse - Palliative Care

Your Opportunity:

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse who has a passion for supporting patients and their families experiencing a palliative diagnosis? Do you have an interest in ensuring healthcare professionals are educated and supported on palliative care best practice? Do you have experience in care coordination, advance care planning, assessment and consultation and you’re looking for the opportunity to expand on this experience?

As a PCRN, you will function as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team in acute care, continuing care and home care settings to provide specialized assessment and intervention on a consultative and limited direct service basis. You will be responsible for working collaboratively with physician consultants, primary care physicians, and other healthcare professionals along the continuum of care to ensure the provision of quality palliative care services follows evidence-based best practices.

Working in designated communities, the PCRN plans, advocates and develops community capacity in palliative care through consultation with all stakeholders. This position will be expected to participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 telephone consult coverage throughout North Zone in the friendly northern Alberta communities of Lac La Biche, Valleyview, and Peace River.

Description:

 As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.

  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to continuing education in Palliative Care. CNA Certification in Hospice Palliative Care, or a commitment to obtaining.

  • Demonstrated abilities in program planning, education of adults and interdisciplinary practice.

  • Experience in at least 2 care sectors.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership experience, and ability to promote collaboration and partnership.

  • Case Management Education.

  • Computer skills including internet, Meditech, and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years nursing experience, 2 years of which includes Palliative Care experience.

  • Home Care experience.
