Located within Stanton and reporting directly to the Manager, Surgical and Maternal Child Services, the CC works from 07:15-15:15, Monday to Friday, and is responsible for ensuring the quality of care within the Obstetrics Unit including providing clinical leadership and support to all Obstetrics Nurses. The CC works with nursing staff and in consultation with the Manager, Surgical and Maternal Child Services and OB/GYNE and Pediatric Specialists to implement the quality programs of More OB, More OB Plus, as well as patient treatment planning, and patient & family care in the Obstetrics Unit. The CC ensures the appropriate transition of patients back to the community through communication, planning, and coordination with NTHSSA Regions (including but not limited to Community Health Centers, Social Programs), non-government organizations, and other stakeholders. The CC provides clinical supervision, mentorship, support and guidance to RNs in the provision of patient care.
The CC models and promotes excellence through the demonstration of clinical best practices with patients in collaboration with RNs, and provides seasoned advice and recommendations to RNs, to help them effectively address difficult, complex, or unusual situations. As an educator, resource and mentor, the CC helps guide nurses from task orientation to more empowered analytical thinking and care giving approaches. These provisions have a direct impact on the quality of services delivered to clients and their families, and on the cost of the services provided.
Based on patient census and acuity throughout Stanton, the CC may (within reasonable expectations) be required to provide standardized nursing care to any/or all of the nursing units within the scope of their nursing practice.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is required. Minimum five (5) years’ of recent clinical experience within Obstetrics is required. Equivalencies may be considered
- Perinatal Certificate and/or Canadian Nursing Association Certification in Perinatal and neonatal nursing is desired.
- Demonstrated leadership knowledge/skill.
- Certificate or demonstrated knowledge/skill in adult education would be an asset.
- All other equivalencies will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
- Be a licensed member of a Provincial or Territorial Nursing Association in good standing and be eligible for registration with RNANT/NU.
The salary for this position is currently under review. An annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.A comprehensive benefits package includes:
