Alberta Health Services is invested in Grande Prairie with construction underway for a new regional hospital and cancer centre. This Unit Manager position offers a unique opportunity to develop an emergency/trauma program within the new Grande Prairie Regional Hospital currently under construction. Targeted opening date in 2019. The opportunity exists for the right candidate to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients and staff. Reporting to the Patient Care Director, the Unit Manager is responsible for leadership of the Emergency Department and Trauma Service at the QEII Regional Hospital. The Unit Manager coordinates and provides leadership in the daily operation and delivery of services, develops and recommends the operational plan for designated areas, identifies training needs and ensures skill maintenance programs are provided to staff, monitors and ensures compliance with budgetary guidelines, and provides day-to-day supervision of the nursing, professional and support staff within the unit. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

Co-ordinates and provides leadership in the daily operation of the portfolio areas, ensuring they follow AHS strategic direction. Promotes and models the Human Resources Management philosophy, policies and practices in consultation with Human Resources. Ensures educational opportunities, orientation and training is provided to meet staff needs. Implements and monitors portfolio budget. Undertakes risk management, quality assurance and utilization activities for designated areas. Promotes effective communication between units, across programs and services, and within the Zone. Participates and provides leadership in direct patient care activities.

Required Qualifications:

Member in good standing with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. Baccalaureate of Nursing Degree required. 5 years current, relevant emergency nursing experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Nursing Degree an asset. Relevant nursing management experience in an emergency department an asset.
