Job Description

Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse/Psychiatric nurse will function as a member of an inter-disciplinary health team that will consist of a number of health professions which include physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and hospital staff to support individuals coping with opioid dependence. This position will provide addiction and/or medical assessments to ensure medical and psychological safety, determine appropriate client care modalities administration of methadone and suboxone, assisting the clinic's contracted physician and the functions in a multidisciplinary team. Case management and collaborations with allied professionals is a critical function of this position to ensure safe transitions and continuing care.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Two years of experience within the last five years providing assessment, treatment and case management of clients with complex substance use, mental health and physical health concerns. Ability to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with diverse types of patients and their families. Relevant and recent experience working with clients with substance addiction and/or mental illness. Ability to function autonomously and be self-directed. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team structure, collaborating with various health professionals and community partners including Nurse Practitioners, physicians and other health professionals. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and documentation skills. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CPRNA).

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of the controlled drug and substances course is preferred. Experience with urine drug screening and the interpretation of these results. Experience with harm reduction, methadone maintenance, suboxone, and addiction treatment modalities. Experience with ECG interpretation. Effective group facilitation and health teaching skills. Knowledge of program and policy planning, development and evaluation.
