Nursing Professor

Work where you matter. Vancouver Island University is an amazing place of opportunity and we are currently hiring for the role of Professor in our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. This is a permanent, full-time role that starts on August 1/18.

 

You will teach theory and practice courses, as well as skills and simulation skills labs, in all years of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Individual responsibilities for our Nursing Professors include:

  • preparing and delivering classes,
  • designing and grading student assignments and tests,
  • facilitating student integration of theory and practice,
  • actively participate in program and faculty meetings,
  • liaising with staff and faculty,
  • overseeing instructor-led and preceptor-led practicums across all years of the program, and
  • responding to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learners.

 

You will have the ability to work in a team-oriented program and Faculty at an institution that is primarily focused on students and teaching. Your strengths will include your commitment to undergraduate teaching, inter-professional education, interdisciplinary scholarship and the inclusion of students in scholarly inquiry activities/research.

 

VIU places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement. This position requires travel to a variety of practice settings on Vancouver Island.

 

Our Nursing Professors hold:

  • a Relevant PhD (completed or in progress), or a Master's Degree and three years' teaching experience.
  • An undergraduate degree in Nursing from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching with the ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Current three to five years practice experience in nursing within different contexts of care.
  • Expertise and practice experience must be in gerontology, acute-medical/surgical care, or mental health.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a dynamic and creative program team.
  • Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology to teaching.
  • Current practicing membership in good standing with the CRNBC.
