Reporting to the Senior Director, Labour Relations, the Manager/Team Lead, Labour Relations, will act as both a team leader and an organizational resource to labour relations staff. She/he will be a high achiever who is dedicated, strategic and a team player and is responsible for assisting ONA in achieving its strategic outcomes. The Team Lead will maintain professional and effective labour/management relationships by leading, coordinating, coaching and mentoring team members and actively supporting all levels of the Union. The successful individual will be an expert in labour relations and have strong communication skills as she/he interacts with leaders and members on current issues, trends and developments in the labour relations sphere.
This is what else you can expect from this dynamic role:
- Provides support and mentorship/coaching to servicing labour relations staff through active facilitation and participation in their work through onboarding and performance development plans identified by the District Service Team Manager(s).
- Leads negotiations, contract administration in support of Bargaining Units and Locals.
- Works with Senior Director(s), Labour Relations to ensure timely and accurate administration of collective agreements with the team including grievances and any conflict resolution, mediation, arbitration support and/or strike support.
- Supports timely and accurate administration of long-term disability, accommodations and return to work and works with other teams to highlight, follow-up and assist.
- Brings forward new and innovative ideas that are forward-looking and drives positive change to be best in practice as a labour organization.
- Represents ONA with various external groups and organizations as required and provides written reports on these and other activities as requested.
- Accountable for participation in the development of educational opportunities within the organization including presentations to staff and the development of other labour relations support resources.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends as they relate to labour relations issues.
- Participates and supports timely recruitment, coaching, performance evaluations and management, discipline and termination where necessary in accordance to organizational policy and within the context of collective agreement.
What we are looking for:
The successful candidate will possess -
- Post-secondary education in Labour/Industrial Relations or a related field.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of recent related experience in labour relations including practice concerns (preferred) and human rights issues including accommodation and return to work, contract administration, bargaining, grievance handling, professional responsibility, preferably in a health-care environment.
- Two (2) years of experience supervising/providing mentorship/leadership to employees and a history of service deliverables in a unionized environment (or, for above, an equivalent combination of education and experience satisfactory to ONA may be considered).
- A Registered Nurse (RN) designation is required.
- Practical knowledge of project management.
- Proven conflict/alternative dispute resolution skills and/or advanced mediation and workplace conflict coaching certification.
- Experience teaching, coaching or mentoring a diverse group of people having accountability for a complex number of issues and a strong commitment to the Union movement.
- Ability to speak other languages is considered an asset.
The successful candidate must be able to do ongoing/frequent and, at times, extensive travel between ONA sites/regional offices and external sites.
Valid driver's licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle and automobile insurance that covers driving for business purposes.
