Job Description

The Therapist is a highly skilled clinician responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, treatment, consultation, and education within the mandate of Community Mental Health to adults experiencing serious psychiatric/mental health problems. The predominant patient population served have mood disorder diagnoses.   The Therapist will provide treatment, utilizing various best practice therapy modalities, via both individual and group formats.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide clinical assessment (including mental status examination), treatment, consultation, and development of appropriate follow-up plans post discharge.
  • Utilize recognized best practice treatment/ therapy modalities, ie CBT, IPT, DBT, Brief Solution-Focused, etc.
  • Act as a resource person for family physicians and community agencies in regard to mental health assessments and appropriate treatment options or alternate resources.
  • Utilize a Recovery Framework in assisting clients to identify and address goals.
  • For assigned clients, monitor the delivery of care in collaboration with the assigned Consulting Psychiatrist, and ensure appropriate documentation is completed and distributed to referring source in accordance with current Program policies and in accordance with the individual’s Professional College standards.
  • Participate in Clinical Rounds to review treatment and management plans for individual clients.
  • Complete workload and other statistical information in accordance with Community Mental Health requirements, including OCAN assessments.
  • Provide liaison and education to community agencies/services, other relevant facilities, and educational institutions including supervision of students.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in research projects approved by the Medical Directors of Psychiatry, Manager and/or others conducting approved research.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current certificate of competence /registration with discipline-specific Professional College in the Province of Ontario (Registered Nurse/Social Worker/Occupational Therapist);
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a mental health setting providing assessment, treatment, consultation, and education to a similar adult target population; have some familiarity with the major psychotropic medications;
  • Demonstrated strong clinical assessment and therapy treatment skills ( including group work skills);
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act and emerging clinical trends and evidence-based best practice;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and oral/written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated willingness to act as an educational and clinical resource to team members, students, clients and community agencies;
  • Must be available for some early evening hours to accommodate groups.
