The Bigstone Health Commission in Wabasca, AB is seeking an experienced Manager of Public Health to join our talented Health Team. You will possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, proficiency with computers, effective teaching practices, a valid driver’s license, and are medically fit.

  • Assesses client progress on an ongoing basis and provide input to necessary changes

  • Initiate emergency services when deemed necessary

  • A strong commitment and understanding of the concept of client independence and client self care. Assessment skills; able to independently provide through assessments of client needs

  • Organize and manage a caseload and possess effective decision making skills, must also be able to work collaboratively with other health care providers

  • Responsible for the planning, coordination and evaluation of Community and Public Health Services provided in the assigned area of responsibility

  • Provide direction and supervision to Community and Public Health staff who report directly to this position, supervises personal care aides and licensed practical nurses

  • The incumbent is in regular contact with the general public, health centre staff and related professional groups






  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing

  • Must be registered and in good standing with CARNA

  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation , basic rescuer level and first aid certificate

  • Previous experience working in Community/Public health care

  • Good interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills and demonstrated teaching skills

  • Should have 4 or more years experience in nursing

  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience in working effectively with First Nations people
